The Pink Out Game has been moved to Tuesday, December 13th against Harrisburg. This event will be just a game and it will be celebrated by wearing any past Pink Out Shirt. We would like to see the variety of shirts and the many families that we’ve supported and helped fight their cancer battles. We will have a “Pass the Hat Donation” during this game to support this year’s Hometown Hero, Paul Beeler and his family. Mr. Beeler was recently diagnosed with stage 4 Renal Cell Cancer. Paul has family members that currently work for the FHS School District and the Beeler family has been a big part of our school and community for many years. If you can’t make it to the game and want to donate, there is a Paul Beeler Medical Treatment bank account set up at BTC in Fayette. You can also contribute to the Paul Beeler - Cancer Treatment Go Fund me at https://gofund.me/e31580c1 . Another Pink Out Event, like our usual activities, will be scheduled at a later time.

Coach Bishop is looking for anyone interested in being a basketball manager. The pay is great and you sometimes get free McDonalds. Please see Coach Bishop if you are interested.

If you didn’t order a FHS 21-22 yearbook from the last school year, we have extras for $40. They may be purchased at the library on a first come basis and will be sold until they are gone.

Here is a scholarship opportunity for you all...

The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide four-year need-based merit scholarship providing each recipient with the opportunity to graduate college debt-free, providing up to $6,000 each semester. After graduation from college, Hagan Scholars can apply for a two-year extension of their scholarship to attend graduate school or a professional school, receiving $6,000 each semester.

Free workshops, Free Schwab Brokerage Accounts, and Free Study Abroad provide recipients with a practical understanding of important life skills not typically covered in the school curriculum.

    • Hagan Scholarships awarded to date: 2,933

    • Colleges and Universities attended by Hagan Scholars: 429

    • Hagan Scholars currently enrolled in college: 1,122

    Basic Eligibility Requirements:

    1. Must attend an eligible public high school

    2. Must have achieved a 3.5 GPA

    3. Must enroll in an eligible college or university

    4. Must maintain a 4 year or less graduation schedule

    5. Applicant’s Adjusted Household Income reported for Federal Income Tax Purposes must not Exceed $85,000.

The Coolidge Scholarship is a full-ride, four-year, merit scholarship that may be used by recipients for undergraduate study at any accredited college or university in the United States. Any high school junior who plans to enroll in college in the fall of 2024 and is an American citizen or legal permanent resident is eligible to apply (current high school seniors are not eligible to apply). Winners may use the scholarship to pursue any academic major. More information about the Coolidge Scholarship is posted outside of the library and the counselor’s office.

It’s once again time for Howard Electric’s Youth Tour Contest. As in the past, high school juniors will be eligible to compete for a FREE trip of a lifetime to Washington D.C. as well as a $1,000 scholarship. In the past, we have had less than ten students compete for this scholarship, so the odds of winning might be better than any other scholarship. With that said, we would like to see this program grow, so in addition to providing a trip and scholarship to the winner, we will also award a $50 gift card to the sponsoring teacher of the winner.

The students who have attended in the past have consistently said what a great trip it is. These students become college roommates, professional colleagues, and lifelong friends. For some, it’s a fun trip that later brings fond memories. To others, Youth Tour inspires kids to discover the adults they’re going to be, and hey, looks really good on college applications!

Contest winners will be with about 100 other contest winners from all over the state of Missouri, so your travel companions are really the “cream of the crop.”

There will be 1 finalist as the Youth Tour winner, who receives a paid trip to Washington D.C. and a $1,000 scholarship. There will be 1 runner-up, who receives a paid trip to the “CYCLE” 3 day conference in Jefferson City where they will experience Missouri Government.

This summer’s trip to Washington D.C. is scheduled for June 12th – 18th. This is a great trip and a great scholarship opportunity, so I hope you will encourage your students to take advantage of this. The runner-up Jefferson City CYCLE program is July 19th – 21st. I have included a couple of flyers that you can hang up at your school to help promote if you would please.

Students will need to complete the 2023 application (which I have included along with the contest rules and FAQs) and submit it by February 24th. Only the application, which includes a short essay, will need to be submitted this year – no long essay like in the past. The five finalists will then be contacted to set up a short interview at the Howard Electric Cooperative office. We will then choose the finalist and runner-up on the combined top scores.
