The Coolidge Scholarship is a full-ride, four-year, merit scholarship that may be used by recipients for undergraduate study at any accredited college or university in the United States. Any high school junior who plans to enroll in college in the fall of 2024 and is an American citizen or legal permanent resident is eligible to apply (current high school seniors are not eligible to apply). Winners may use the scholarship to pursue any academic major. More information about the Coolidge Scholarship is posted outside of the library and the counselor’s office.
It’s once again time for Howard Electric’s Youth Tour Contest. As in the past, high school juniors will be eligible to compete for a FREE trip of a lifetime to Washington D.C. as well as a $1,000 scholarship. In the past, we have had less than ten students compete for this scholarship, so the odds of winning might be better than any other scholarship. With that said, we would like to see this program grow, so in addition to providing a trip and scholarship to the winner, we will also award a $50 gift card to the sponsoring teacher of the winner.
The students who have attended in the past have consistently said what a great trip it is. These students become college roommates, professional colleagues, and lifelong friends. For some, it’s a fun trip that later brings fond memories. To others, Youth Tour inspires kids to discover the adults they’re going to be, and hey, looks really good on college applications!
Contest winners will be with about 100 other contest winners from all over the state of Missouri, so your travel companions are really the “cream of the crop.”
There will be 1 finalist as the Youth Tour winner, who receives a paid trip to Washington D.C. and a $1,000 scholarship. There will be 1 runner-up, who receives a paid trip to the “CYCLE” 3 day conference in Jefferson City where they will experience Missouri Government.
This summer’s trip to Washington D.C. is scheduled for June 12th – 18th. This is a great trip and a great scholarship opportunity, so I hope you will encourage your students to take advantage of this. The runner-up Jefferson City CYCLE program is July 19th – 21st. I have included a couple of flyers that you can hang up at your school to help promote if you would please.
Students will need to complete the 2023 application (which I have included along with the contest rules and FAQs) and submit it by February 24th. Only the application, which includes a short essay, will need to be submitted this year – no long essay like in the past. The five finalists will then be contacted to set up a short interview at the Howard Electric Cooperative office. We will then choose the finalist and runner-up on the combined top scores. Feel free to contact me at 660-248-3311 or via email at jvroman@howardelectric.com with any questions that you may have.
Applications are now open for Missouri Credit Union’s annual scholarship program. To help member families cope with the rising cost of higher education, Missouri Credit Union will award 16 $2,500 scholarships to graduating seniors who are current members of the credit union, or whose parents or guardians are members. Recipients are selected based on financial need, scholastic achievement, and extracurricular activities.
MCU’s scholarship funds can be used toward a four-year college or university or a two-year technical school of the recipients’ choice. The scholarship awards are available for members or children of MCU members. Interested students are invited to complete the application, provide a copy of their 2023-2024 Federal Student Aid form as well as their high school transcript, and share about themselves and their goals through a short essay and biographical sketch. For more information and to apply, please visit https://missouricu.org/college-scholarships/
The board members of Forest Green Farmers Mutual Insurance Company have voted to award a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior of Keytesville, Salisbury, Glasgow and Fayette High Schools. This scholarship opportunity is available for any senior desiring to further their education by attending a 2-year community college, 4-year university, or a technical school. Please have completed applications back to Mrs. Shepard by Wednesday, February 1st.
