Curriculum and instruction throughout the Fayette R-III School District is designed to increase student achievement and ensure success for each student.  As part of the district’s ongoing commitment to provide the best educational opportunities for students, we continually revise and update our curriculum. 

Elementary

Elementary curriculum emphasizes mastery of foundational skills in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, health, technology, art, music and physical education. The curriculum is individualized to meet special needs, and lessons are also provided to develop social skills and positive character traits.

Middle School

Middle school curriculum and supporting activities are designed to help students enter their teen years with success and confidence. The required curriculum includes courses in social studies, language arts, science, mathematics, physical education and health. Elective classes are available in art, music, careers, literature, technology, family and consumer science and band. Students also receive lessons on character education.

High School

Nearly 80 course offerings are available at the high school, including vocational, college preparatory, fine arts, practical arts, and physical education. Courses include the areas of English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, family and consumer sciences, business education, internship work programs, physical education, health, band, and choir. Honors and dual-credit courses are available depending on teacher certification.

The curriculum is defined as the "what."  Our curriculum outlines represent what we expect students to know and be able to do. Instruction is the “how."  We support student learning and differentiate, based on student needs, in order for all students to meet and exceed expectations.

Assessment is the means by which we determine student mastery and proficiency on our defined expectations.  Teachers communicate information about classroom instruction, student needs and achievement through electronic tools and conversations. Assessment is frequent so students can demonstrate growing competencies. Ongoing assessment information is shared by sending home materials, offering electronic access, and conducting parent-teacher conferences.

Virtual School Program
Students who have been enrolled full time in a public or charter school for at least one semester immediately prior, may enroll part-time or full-time in the Missouri Course Access and Virtual School Program (MOCAP). Enrollment will be approved by Fayette R-III once a building-level team determines that this is in the best educational interest of the student. A student with a documented medical or psychological condition that prevented the student from attending school during the previous semester shall be exempt from the requirement that a student is enrolled full-time in and attended a public school for at least one semester in order to enroll in MOCAP courses.
