Last summer, the 4th and 5th grade students attending summer school took over the care of the garden. They assisted in growing, maintaining, harvesting, and selling produce during the month of June. Each week food samples were offered made from produce being sold. These included Carrot Cookies, Beet Cake, and Scalloped Turnips. In just three days we were able to raise over $400 by selling to our local community! The students really enjoyed the project from start to finish and were able to incorporate lessons in science, nutrition, math, and economics. We hope to again sell produce this summer and would like to expand our offerings.
